Writer, director and co-producer Sally Aitken discusses the archival challenge she faced making the feature documentary, Hot Potato – The Story of the Wiggles. With a career spanning three decades and millions of adoring fans around the globe, The Wiggles are one of the most successful Australian entertainment exports ever. For director Sally Aitken, ensuring the fans’ personal connection to the band was vital to the documentary and so, she and her team asked fans for archival material to be used. “We put a call-out for archive. Brilliant idea! ‘Hey! Fans of the Wiggles over the last thirty years! Send us your home videos, send us… your photo albums,’” Aitken recalls. “Well, it’s a brave filmmaker who does that. I can tell you. We were inundated.” In this behind-the-scenes video, Aitken recounts how she became involved in the project, how the making of the film impacted her personally and what she hopes audiences will take away from watching the documentary. Hot Potato – The Story of the Wiggles is available to stream on Prime Video from 24 October, 2023.
