Bucky’s mom, Sue Bailey, worked at the DuPont factory for years, as many residents of Parkersburg have. Sue became one of several pregnant women who gave birth to a baby with deformities after working with PFOA on the DuPont production line. Pregnant women were taken off the line after this. Bucky has since been a visible voice on this issue and has spoken out against DuPont and the harms their negligence and deliberate failures to protect people (including their own employees) have caused.
