After a doomed driver and his 3,600-pound million-dollar stock car become airborne and land on a telephone pole, the already embattled owner of Eagle Ridge Speedway, Christian Chandler, Jr., comes under greater scrutiny. Before he'll sign on as track physician, Dr. Richard Beckett wants to know why the car mysteriously malfunctioned. When he's stonewalled by Chandler, he launches his own private investigation that reveals evidence of what may have been foul play. To make matters worse, Beckett finds out that, in the upcoming race, another car might leave the starting line with an extra blast. The tension's mounting, the flags are up, and the race is on!

Beckett is harassed by a lovesick sixteen-year-old whose mechanic father has illegally modified a racer's car.

A former con man turned evangelist sets up his tent on the track's infield, arousing both suspicion and support.

Beckett and his surgeon father are reunited while attempting to save an aging driver in need of a liver transplant.
